Working for the benefit of the residents of Hempstead, near Gillingham, Kent
WHO WE ARE
We are a group of local Hempstead residents who have come together to make a difference in Hempstead, by arranging events throughout the year bringing everyone together as a community.
Hempstead Village Fayre Group was initially set up to resurrect the Hempstead Village Fayre, which originated in 1963 as Hempstead Whitsun Festival, which itself was introduced to raise money for a larger Village Hall. By 1966 over £500 had been raised and the new Village Hall opened in 1967. The Festival was enjoyed for many years before lack of helpers contributed to its demise. It also ran for a few years in the early 1990's but then again lay dormant until 2009, when 3 enthusiastic villagers touted for volunteers which resulted in the Hempstead Village Fayre as we know it today.
It was decided that money should be raised to resurrect Hempstead's Christmas Tree; Councillor Chambers provided the finance for the first year and then half of the finance for the second year. Since then we have been on our own and with the support of Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre, we have not only achieved Hempstead's Christmas Tree each year but we have also raised funds for local charities and good causes close to many of our hearts, something we as a community should be very proud of.
We meet once a month at All Saints Church Hempstead. We currently have a small team of volunteers so would gladly welcome more! If you would like to get involved, please use the contact form below or email firstname.lastname@example.org and someone will get back to you.
